A selfie of me in my darkroom.
Welcome to my fine art photography website, and thank you for taking the time to visit. My name is Chris, and I’m a photographer based in Birmingham, England. Photography has been a central part of my life for many years, but over the past six years I’ve focused almost exclusively on working with film cameras. There’s something about the deliberate pace, the physical materials, and the element of anticipation that comes with shooting film that continues to inspire and challenge me as an artist.
My approach to photography is intentionally hands-on from beginning to end. Rather than sending my film to a lab, I develop it myself at home. I even take the process a step further by mixing the chemistry I use, which allows me to experiment with different formulas and truly understand the materials I’m working with. This slower, more tactile process connects me to the craft in a way that modern instant photography rarely does.
Once the film is developed, much of my work continues in the darkroom. I produce traditional photographic prints using enlargers, light-sensitive paper, and careful chemical processing. Watching an image gradually appear in the developer tray is still one of the most magical parts of the entire process. Each print is made with care and attention, and subtle differences in timing, exposure, and chemistry mean every print carries its own unique character.
At the same time, I appreciate the benefits of modern technology. While the images themselves originate on film and are often printed traditionally, I also incorporate a digital workflow when it comes to sharing my work. Scanning and presenting photographs online allows me to reach a much wider audience and connect with people who appreciate film photography and traditional photographic processes.
